Factory worker killed by moving machinery

WORKPLACE ACCIDENT: Firemen waiting to extricate Hamid’s body from the machine.

KUCHING: A worker at a steel processing factory was killed when his head was crushed by a machine he was operating yesterday.

The incident was discovered around 7.15am when his co-workers at the Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong factory found the lifeless body of Hamid Bujang, 31, trapped in one of the still running steel-processing machines.

They immediately switched off the machine and notified their supervisors who contacted the police, Fire and Rescue Services Department and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The body of the deceased from Kampung Tanah Puteh in Serian was extricated by firemen and sent to SGH mortuary for a postmortem.

A co-worker disclosed that Hamid had stopped working at the factory some time ago, but returned three days ago.

The incident has been classified as sudden death.
