Landslide kills two in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: A landslide buried a house in Kampung Terusan yesterday, killing an eight-year-old girl and a woman and badly injuring a man, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.

Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Apandi Mahmood said four of the seven people in the house at the time of the disaster at about 3 am managed to flee in time. He said the injured man has been admitted to Lahad Datu Hospital.

The bodies of the girl, Nisdawati Jamal, and the woman, Faridah Jompah, 40, said to be related, were pulled out of the rubble of earth, oil palm and other trees at 10.55 am and 11.10 am, respectively, he said.

“Their bodies were found in a room of the house,” he said. — Bernama
