KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysia Police here have intensified their efforts to prevent crime.

One of the  methods is the Oscar Posting System which has received positive response from the public.

The system, being implemented by the Kota Kinabalu district police station, is a method whereby the police would get together with the public, apart from conducting patrols, to prevent crime activities in the city area.

Kota Kinabalu Traffic and Public Safety head DSP Peter Umbuas said the posting system also involved police officers.

According to him, apart from crime prevention patrols, the posting system is also one of the methods in achieving the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) to put safety guarantee to the highest level as wished by the public, Peter said when met after conducting a Voluntary Patrol Scheme at Kampung Tanjung Air 1 near here on Sunday morning.

He and his team also conducted a patrol and met up with  members of the public at the Tanjung Aru Beach area.

Peter said the public they met during the patrols welcomed the presence of police personnel in the city as they felt their safety was assured.

“Before this, when they (the public) saw the presence of the police, they would be afraid as they thought that was a big case happening.

“But after various efforts have been taken, their mentalities have changed. They are now comfortable with the presence of the police in their areas as they can talk about their problems to the police,” he said.
