SANDAKAN: The Marine Operation Force (MOF) here confiscated 1,130 turtle eggs worth around RM2,500 in the waters of Kampung Forest yesterday.
According to the commander of MOF Division 4, ACP Abdul Manaf Othman, the turtle eggs were confiscated from a pump boat around 12.30am.
The boat skipper had fled the scene and left two sacks containing the turtle eggs, believed for the market in Sandakan area.
The case will be investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
On February 17, MOF seized 6,770 packets of contraband cigarettes with an estimated value of RM121,413.18 in the waters of Lupak Meluas.
The cigarettes were believed to have been smuggled in from neighbouring countries to be sold in Sandakan area, he added.
On February 13, MOF also confiscated 53 gallons of fuel from two pump boats at the waters of Kuala Sungai, Mile 3.
Meanwhile, MOF had solved the theft case at a merchant ship after arresting a 37-year-old suspect on February 1 at Kampung Singgah Mata, Batu Sapi.
The suspect had stolen 31 tins of paints of various brands from the ship.
