KOTA KINABALU: A YouTube video depicting an Arab tourist erupting in anger at a hostel receptionist and another woman over a public display of affection by the second woman and her off-screen boyfriend gathered popularity after it became viral, MSN news reported.
The video, first uploaded on February 9, titled “Crazy Guy Muhammad Saad Ali Hassan” – apparently the name of the alleged attacker – reached over 5,000 views, as local media organizations began reporting on the incident.
The Arab man blew his top after seeing a kiss by two guests in the common area of a Kota Kinabalu guesthouse, identified in the video as North Borneo Cabin.
The man directed his anger to the receptionist, which other media sources have cited as local Dewina Jolilin, 22, later attacking her with what appeared to be a plastic bag.
This led to the couple coming to Dewina’s defense, as the Arab man continued expressing his outrage. He repeatedly made mention of Malaysia being a Muslim country and the display of affection as being against his beliefs.
In his anger he is seen in the video attacking the girlfriend in question. After a brief tussle, the Arab man left the hostel without settling his bill.
A top-rated comment left on the YouTube article by user hermanmern, apparently speaking on behalf of the North Borneo Cabin hostel, says: “I apologize for what happened to the couple. This is the first such incident [to have happened]at the backpacker lodge. I hope both of you are okay. This guy is all over the news until now since that incident happened and hopefully the police will take action. Hope you guys have a great and safe journey after this. North Borneo Cabin.”
