Active Rakan Cop programme can help reduce crime rate – Perak police chief

Posted on February 22, 2012, Wednesday

IPOH: Despite the presence of 117,401 Rakan Cop members in Perak, state police chief Datuk Ahmad Shukri Dahalan notes they had failed to effectively assist the police in crime prevention.

He said, an active Rakan Cop programme which provided useful information could help the police bring down the crime rate.

“I (therefore) urge the Rakan Cop to use this platform to relay information pertaining to crime cases such as robbery, house break-in or motorcycle theft, in their housing area or anywhere,” he told reporters after the monthly gathering of police personnel at the state police contingent here today.

In another development, Ahmad Shukri said the state police, with the cooperation of their Selangor counterparts, recently busted a syndicate of thieves which targeted lorries.

The police also raided a workshop in Changkat Jering, Taiping last Saturday, which was used to dispose off spare parts cannibalised from stolen lorries, he added.

Ahmad Shukri said, four men, believed to be linked to the syndicate which had stolen vehicles in Perak, Penang and Selangor, were detained to facilitate investigations.
