Customs officer gets five years’ jail and RM2,000 fine

ALOR SETAR: A customs officer was sentenced to five years in prison and fined RM2,000 or six months in default by the Sessions Court here yesterday after he was found guilty of robbery two years ago.
Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail sentenced Bidin Hamid, 50, for robbing RM300 from a man in front of Sekolah Menengah Agama Hidayah Islamiah, Batu 10 Alor Biak, Sungai Korok near here about 8 pm on Nov 26, 2010.
Bidin, who now works as a security guard after being suspended, was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum of 14 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
DPP Mohamad Rizal Fadzil prosecuted and counsel P.V.K Dasaratharaj represented Bidin.
The judge allowed a stay of execution pending appeal and set bail at RM8,000. — Bernama
