KOTA KINABALU: A local gardener will stand trial on March 12-16 this year on a charge of murdering a teenage girl two years ago.
Robert Yee, 24, pleaded not guilty before Justice Datuk David Wong Dak Wah, to killing the 17-year-old girl at an unnumbered house in Kampung Nabutan, Ranau between 7pm-9pm on September 6, 2010.
The indictment framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharuddin informed the court that the prosecution would produce 15 witnesses to testify against the accused, who was represented by counsel Yong Pei Yii.
Wong ordered Yee to be further remanded under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code pending trial, as murder is a non-bailable offence.
