KUCHING: A self-employed man who sued Syarikat Sesco Bhd yesterday agreed to settle the case out of court.

The plaintiff Chong Jin San from Jalan Stampin had filed the lawsuit against the electricity supply company for giving him a summons for an outstanding 36 months in bills amounting to RM3,316.30 for alleged tampering of the electric meter at his house.

According to Chong’s lawyer, Chong Chien Jen, the company had agreed to reduce the original outstanding bills to RM550, the decision made and agreed upon by the plaintiffs in the Magistrates’ Court here yesterday.

Magistrate Maris Agan who heard the case ordered the plaintiff to pay the bills within 14 days from yesterday.

Chien Jen said at a press conference in Court that the plaintiff’s electricity bills were reduced after his house meter at Jalan Stampin was replaced by Sesco.

“Before the replacement of the meter, his (Chong) electricity bill averaged RM60 to RM70 per month. However, the bills went down to between RM50 and RM60 per month with the new meter.”

Chieng Jen said Sesco claimed the meter was tampered by the plaintiff and issued him an outstanding bill for RM3,316.30.
