KOTA KINABALU: With the themes ‘Sabah In My View’ and ‘Life In My District’, the Sabah State Cultural Board hopes to generate more interest among visual art enthusiasts for the 27th Sabah State Annual Art Selection Competition this year.
The board’s director Datu Rosmadi Sulai said the competition among others was to encourage local artists to be sensitive in capturing the development of Sabah.
“The board is targeting to increase participation to 400 art works by 350 participants compared to last year with 364 pieces of work by 335 participants in various forms of art such as paintings and sculptures.
“The main objective of the board is to discover new talents, forge interest as well as increase the quantity and quality of art works in Sabah while attracting more public interest and appreciation, he told a new conference at the board’s office here yesterday.
Rosmadi said board had now obtained the support of both the government and private sector for their paintings while hotels supported the local art scene by buying art works for display.
He said participation forms were distributed from yesterday at the board’s office, district education and district offices and that the closing date of the competition was June 15. — Bernama
