KAPIT: Wilson Ugak Kumbong, the private secretary to the Minister of Land Development, has declared that he may stand in Hulu Rajang during the upcoming parliamentary election.

While representing Tan Sri Dr James Masing during a meet the people event at Rumah Bansa, Lepong Gaat recently, Ugak introduced himself as the potential Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the seat.

He has been attending numerous events in the rural
constituency to introduce himself to the people in a bid to garner support.

This is despite incumbent Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament Datuk Billy Abit Joo’s statements that he is prepared to defend the seat for BN if the people continued to back him.

Abit, who is Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) senior vice-president, has represented the area since 1990.

In the 2008 parliamentary election, Abit defeated current Pelagus assemblyman George Lagong, who then stood as an independent, by a majority of 2,164 votes.

He polled 6,590 votes against Lagong’s 4,426 votes.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Ugak called on the people to
continue supporting the BN government.

He said the government has always been very concerned about the people and their welfare, especially those from rural areas.
