MP suggests setting up of tribunal to resolve land-related issues

Posted on February 23, 2012, Thursday

BELURAN: Beluran MP Datuk Ronald Kiandee has urged the government to consider creating a special tribunal as a pragmatic approach to resolve the land related issues arising in the state.

He said, the state government should view the land issues wholly to prevent the issues from being exploited by the opposition.

“The opposition cannot be allowed to exploit the issues to lend credence towards their political agenda to win public support,” Kiandee said.

Speaking at the Majlis Bersama Rakyat at Kampung Rumidi, yesterday, the deputy speaker of the Dewan Rakyat also explained that the Land and Survey Department was not totally at fault, for some land problems have been created and contributed by some land owners and applicants themselves.

“The department however will have to resolve 23,000 backlog cases of land applications in the Beluran district,” he said claiming that at every meet-the-people session he had attended, land related issues have always been raised by the people.

as a major topic of contention.

He urged for the issues to be addressed immediately to reflect the government’s concern in solving the problems faced by the residents in rural areas.

“With the existing land law, the government can significantly address the problem of overlapping land applications at the district level,” he said.

At the ceremony, Kiandee also handed out assistance amounting to RM40,000 to 80 villagers from Rumidi, Nangoh, Tarasak and Sinaputan and announced a total allocation of RM100,000 to ten villages in the Nangoh zone for development projects.
