PWD awaits funds to reinstate collapsed road

Posted on February 23, 2012, Thursday

KOTA KINABALU: The reinstatement work on the stretch of Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan road that collapsed on Monday night is expected to be completed within three to four months, according to Public Works Department director Datuk John Anthony.

He said they are now waiting for a federal allocation to reinstate the road, which includes installing a new culvertĀ  that costs RM400,000.

He said the department depends on the approval of the allocation to reinstate the affected road at Km 120 of Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan road, near Kampung Kinaratuan.

John said the alternative gravel road at the site has been made passable to all vehicles since Tuesday night.

The collapse of the 150-metre stretch at about 9pm on Monday cut off the road link and held up many travellers for hours.
