Welfare Department seeks public assistance to trace parents of abandoned baby

MUKAH: The Welfare Department yesterday sought the assistance from members of the public to locate the parents of a baby found abandoned near the veranda of a house along Jalan Pantai, Kampung Jebungan here around midnight on Feb 1.

According to a statement issued by the department’s assistant director Tang Kee Lee, the recently born baby was believed to be about 7-days old at the time of the discovery by the owner of the house before the baby was brought to Mukah Hospital for further checks and supervision.

Confirming that the baby is now under the care of the Welfare Department, Tang appealed to the parents to come to the department and claim the baby before March 8, when the case will be brought up for mention at Sibu Children’s Court.
