M’sia wins four gold at Taiwan innovator expo

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia won four gold at the International Youth Innovator Exhibition (IYIE 2012) held at Far East University, Taiwan, from Feb 10 to 13.

Seven students from SM Sains Sultan Muhamad Jiwa Kedah (SMSSMJ), SM Sains Tuanku Syed Putra, Perlis (SMSTSP) and SBPI Tun Abdul Razak, Pahang were accompanied to the exhibition by three teachers.

SM Sains Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Kedah and SM Sains Tuanku Syed Putra Perlis were under the guidance of Envex Youth Research Club (EYRec) Malaysia University Perlis (UniMAP).

SBPI Tun Abdul Razak, Pahang, won two gold in the ‘From Waste to Wealth’ category where judges were impressed by Nurul Nadiatul Shamimi Rusli and Nur Adeena Abdullah’s creation ‘Sustainable Paper from Waste Saccharum Officinarum’ and Muhammad Khairi Ramli and Muhammad Hisyammuddin Abdul Rahman’s ‘Parbo from Biomass Waste of Palm Oil’.

SMS Tuanku Syed Putra, Perlis, represented by Ahmad Irfan Che Mohd Ruzaidi, won the gold and Special Award from Hong Kong Innovation Society for his ‘E-Starch Food Container’.

SMS Sultan Muhamad Jiwa, Kedah, represented by Fakhri Fitri Mohammad Nawawi and Muhammad Nur Farez Abdul Ghani Kanesan, also won the gold and Special Award from Hong Kong Innovation Society for ‘Superb MSE: Potential local medicinal herb as analgesic substitute for morphine to alleviate pain’.

The IYIE 2012 received a total of 1,272 participations with only 300 products short-listed for the finals.

The exhibition was participated by more than 10 countries including Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.
