KUCHING: Sarawak’s Pei Wee Chung will be in action in badminton tournaments in Europe and Japan to boost his rankings.

“I will be travelling to Europe on March 5 to play in a few tournaments there. The first will be the Romania Open and followed by the Croatia Open as i seek to boost my rankings so as to qualify for higher grade tournaments such as the Japan Open and the World Badminton Championship,” said Pei to The Borneo Post.

Pei crashed out of the Selangor Open losing in straight sets to Lim Fang Yang from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) last Friday. He went down fighting 15-21, 11-21 in the round of 16 match played at Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara.

The national independent shuttler said although he lost in the last 16, it was a good tournament for him as he was able to play competitive badminton after full recovery from his knee operation. “I just need to play more tournaments to get my touch and feel back,” he said.

Pei won the first round match by beating Kong Che Keat of Selangor in a marathon 21-14, 13-21, 21-17 last Wednesday.
