KUANTAN: The Pahang Islamic Religious Department (Jaip) is just doing its job in the ‘khalwat’ (close proximity)case involving Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader Dr Badrulamin Bahronm said its deputy director Datuk Mohd Ghazali Abdul Aziz.

He said the department was not supporting any quarters, be it the Selangor Information director or the complainant.

“As government officers, we are only doing our job to bring justice, not to support the complainant or anybody.

“We have to adhere to stipulated regulations on what can and cannot be done,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

When asked whether Dr Badrulamin would be suing him for his media statement in connection with the case, Mohd Ghazali said the PKR leader was just being emotional.

“Why should he sue me? I’m a government officer and just doing my job. If he is a government officer, how would he feel if someone were to sue him?” he said.

Commenting further, Mohd Ghazali said he had yet to look at the statements given to Jaip officials yesterday by Dr Badrulamin and the woman involved.

If the statements were to be found incomplete, Jaip would definitely call both Dr Badrulamin and the woman again before taking any further action, he said.

According to media reports, Badrulamin was arrested for ‘khalwat’ with a married woman at about 3am at a hotel room in Balok here on Saturday. The case is being investigated under Section 145 of Administration of Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Enactment 1982. — Bernama
