KUCHING: Swimmers from Kuching Amateur Swimming Association (Kasa) 2010 have done extremely well at the recent 39th Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship in Sibu.

The swim team was such a dominant force in Sibu that the opposition was never happy to face them.

The 17-member contingent brought back 44 gold, 33 silver and 23 bronze medals, which according to Kasa 2010 president Dato Wee Hong Seng, is a very good result. With the medals achieved in the championship, Wee felt that Kuching were the overall champions.

“Our swimmers also broke three records in the meet, two of which were by Erika Kong in the Girls Group A 200m IM and 400m IM and by Roydon Ong in Boys Group A 50m butterfly. Apart from this, Erika was adjudged the best swimmer in Girls Group A, Mandy Teo in Girls Group D and Zachary Tan in Boys Group D,” Wee told The Borneo Post at the appreciation dinner to celebrate the achievement on Wednesday.

What pleased him most was that Kasa 2010 had done well in bringing up the younger group of swimmers who are aged ten and below in Group D.

“The coach and parents have successfully trained the younger group and this is very important in any sports, the continuity of the swimmers and this is what I believe is strong evidence that the association and swimmers are maturing and going from strength to strength,” said Wee.

He urged the swimmers, coaches, parents and association to work together as a team to make Sarawak proud with a common vision and mission.

“Kasa 2010 has taken great pride and satisfaction in the achievement of our swimmers even though we had been self-supporting in terms of training, coaching and financial aid,” added Wee.

“With the strong commitment of the parents, the swimmers have become state swimmer like Roydon Ong and national swimmer like Erika who have represented Malaysia at SEA Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.”

Wee hoped that Kasa 2010 would continue their team spirit to help more individual swimmers achieve their personal bests, realise their full potential and to raise their success threshold at all times.
