KELANA JAYA: Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (Prasarana) is to disburse the remaining RM2.5 billion worth of four work packages for the Ampang light rail transit (LRT) line extension project in two months.

Except for the four packages, Prasarana has already awarded all contracts for the project, said group managing director Datuk Shahril Mokhtar. The packages are for the supply of LRT trains, construction of Station 12, supply and management of the access card and engineering procurement and construction contract, he told reporters at the launch of the RM7 billion project here today.

Shahril said contracts worth over RM4.5 billion have been issued. To finance the project, he said, Prasarana would enter the market to secure another RM4 billion this year.

“We’re looking at two tranches, it could be RM2 billion, plus RM2 billion,” he said, adding that Prasarana had raised about RM3 billion so far via the sukuk (Islamic bond) programme.

Shahril said Prasarana would work closely with the main contractors to implement cost-cutting measures.

“Once the remaining packages have been awarded, then we’ll know exactly how much the packages cost.

“I’m confident we can work within the budget,” he added. — Bernama
