MIRI: A nurse claimed that her housemate raped her on Thursday morning at their rented house in Luak after they came back from an entertainment outlet.

The 24-year-old nurse lodged a police report on the incident on Saturday evening.

Miri police chief ACP Mun Kock Keong, when contacted yesterday, confirmed the report and disclosed that a male suspect in his 20s had been arrested late Saturday evening.

“The suspect has been arrested and brought to Miri Central Police Station to facilitate our investigation,” said Mun.

The suspect was remanded for five days. The offence is framed under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, which carries a sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment and whipping if convicted.

According to sources, the girl and the suspect had gone to an entertainment outlet in the city centre together on Wednesday night, where after sipping a few glasses of thirst-quencher, the girl suddenly felt woozy.

The suspect later brought her home and allegedly raped her.

The next morning, when she woke up, she realised that she was naked and felt discomfort on her private part.

Worried and fearing that something awful had happened she confronted the suspect.

During the interrogation, it was said that suspect confessed to the girl that they had had sexual intercourse.
