MIRI: It will be a busy year for table tennis enthusiasts in Miri as the Miri Table Tennis Association (MTTA) is all set to organise nine tournaments this year.
“We are organising a series of table-tennis tournaments here as part of our efforts to promote the game and scout potential talents to represent Miri in future tournaments. Two competitions will be held this month with the U15 Boys and Girls singles Championships on March 24 and followed by the U18 Boys and Girls singles Championship on March 25. The closing date for both championships is on March 16,” informed the association’s vice-president Lo Su Onn.
Three tournaments will be held in April with the Miri Men and Ladies singles veteran championships (for men aged 55-years old & above and ladies 40-years old and above) on April 7, Miri Men singles veteran championship (for those aged 45 years old & above) on April 8, and the Miri Men & Ladies singles open championships on April 22.
“The Miri Mayfest Inter-team tournament is scheduled on May 26 while in June, a further three junior tournaments have been planned. There are the Miri Boys & Girls Singles (U10) Hopes Championship (June 9), U13 Miri Boys & Girls Singles on June 10 and the Miri Non-Chinese Singles Championship on June 16. Eligible players must be residents of Miri or Malaysians residing in Miri Division for more than 100 days,” said Lo.
