POWER ON THE ROAD: Supercar Club Sarawak making the convoy down the road.
KUCHING: Members of the Porsche Club Malaysia (Sarawak Chapter) have decided to migrate to include owners of other supercars and have formed the Supercar Club Sarawak heralding the successful official formation of the Supercar Club Sarawak in Kuching on Sunday.
The club is now a combination of Porsche and supercar brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Bentley, Rolls Royce as well as Lotus.
This was highlighted during a recent gathering held exclusively for club members by its president, Datuk Dr Philip Ting and vice-president/founding member, Michael Pui.

“We have this joint-formation because most of our members do own other brands of supercars besides Porsche and it makes good business sense in terms of widening our network throughout the city and state,” Pui told The Borneo Post during the interview.
He further pointed out there were around 80 Porsche cars in Kuching while other supercars brands consisted of roughly over 30 units. “Today is the official meeting to discuss the migration and form the Supercar Club Sarawak since we have to work out the rules as well as the agenda.”
“Previously, any events or functions were initiated by the members and it was self-funded. Now, we have an internal club fund through the collection of a minimal annual fee from members,” Pui added.
On top of that, the club would also organise a monthly drive as well as dinner for the members. “We are now in the midst of discussions with a few hotels to get exclusive parking for the supercars during our official gatherings.
“Also in the pipeline are the upcoming car show events, which we plan to have at Borneo Convention centre Kuching. The whole event is still at the planning stage and we might get other car clubs to join in the fun too,” said Pui.
According to him, the whole objective of the club was to gather members who appreciate nice cars, apart from sharing knowledge about engines and performance of cars, and ultimately, just creating fellowship among friends with a common interest.
Sharing his thought, Pui said many were put off by the issue of servicing despite the high level of interest in supercars in Kuching. However, this was not a big issue for the Porsche Club as it flew in specialists from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore to service the vehicles from time to time and this could also be done for other supercar brands under the auspices of the new club.
When asked if there were any other brands of cars that were allowed to join in the club, Pui revealed that the club would consider associate members from other brands that had supercar models such as BMW, Mercedes and Nissan. “Those brands do have supercars in their category such as the Mercedes AMG and Nissan GT-R as well as some of the BMW-M series of cars.”
Supercar Club Sarawak is now on Facebook but its a close group which is strictly for members only.
