MIRI: Kolej Tun Datuk Tuanku Haji Bujang will strive to remain one of the country’s premier schools.
Formerly known as Tanjong Lobang School, this educational institution has a legacy of producing top students who not only excel academically but are of good character.
Parent-teacher association (PTA) chairman Philip Ngo told The Borneo Post Adventure Team (BAT) on Wednesday that in the past students were more mature and resilient.
“Most of us before came from rural areas and we wanted to find a better life and career. Therefore we did not want to waste time and we worked hard to excel in our studies.
“This was the trait that spurred everyone to be closely knit in those days and everything was esprit de corps — all our classmates and of course our teachers were our friends. We all treated each other like family, irrespective of our race and religion,” he said.
In those days, the school’s identity was very strong and parents were proud to send their children to Tanjong Lobang School, especially those doing their Form 6, he said.
Philip also studied at the college from 1982 to 1983.
“Studying in the college had a big impact on my life and I am still in touch with everyone through social media,” said the businessman.
He pointed out that the college had a uniquely beautiful location.
“As head of the PTA of the college, I urge the authorities not to cut the beautiful pine trees because they have a nostalgic past and many students will agree with me.”
He hoped the college would continue to instil a sense of belonging in students so they would strive for excellence as future leaders.
“In this college, we do not wait for things to happen but instead we make it happen,” added Philip.
