TAWAU: The National Service Training Council will strive to instill the spirit of patriotism in the country’s young generation through the National Service Training Programme (NSTP), said its chairman Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe.

“Peace is not something that money can buy, hence the reason why the government was willing to invest millions of ringgit in the NSTP,” he said at the closing of the ninth NSTP Group 1 series for 2012 at San Shui Camp, here yesterday.

He said the council based its mission on the Malay proverb, ‘melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya’ (nurturing should start from young).

“It is after all everyone’s responsibility, including the trainees who are the country’s assets and future leaders to maintain the existing harmony and peace.

The batch of 372 trainees comprised 198 males and 174 females, with Muhammad Syawal Azmi from Kuala Lumpur, being named ‘Best Trainee’. — Bernama
