KUCHING: The Boulevard Shopping Mall here, which generated an average monthly business of RM10 million last year, has secured retail tenancy of 78% for its new wing scheduled for opening on June 1.

Boulevard group chief executive officer Don Yew Hoon said the company was in advanced negotiations with potential tenants to take up the remaining 22% retail spaces.

Yew said the company had signed up four mini anchor tenants involved in boutique business, including fashion brands set to make their debut in the country.

The major boutiques are Brands Outlet under the Padini group, Nichii, Jefferson, Eighteen Plus, Trio and Dees.

According to him, the completion of the new wing under phase two development would increase the number of retail shops to more than 230 with a good mix various types of business.

Phase I and II shopping malls are interconnected by link bridges.

Yew said the departmental stores and hypermarket recorded an average monthly revenue of RM10 million last year, and attracted some 500,000 shoppers a month.

He said the shopping mall would be the first in the city to be linked to a hotel and service apartments.

Under phase III construction now are the proposed four-star 360-room Imperial Hotel, which sits on top of the new wing shopping mall, and two blocks of apartment suites. One of the apartment blocks is for sale.

“The hotel and the apartments are expected to open in 2014” said Yew.

The hotel’s banquet hall could accommodate 150 tables for official or social gatherings.

Adjacent to the new wing shopping mall is an eight-storey car park cum entertainment centre that would house a roller skate rink, K-Box, an amusement arcade and eight cinema halls. These facilities are expected to be completed next year.

Yew said when fully operational in 2014, the Boulevard Shopping Mall would be Sarawak’s largest one-stop lifestyle mall.
