MIRI: The traffic light at Maigold, Desa Senadin will be commissioned for operation from next week.

Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the traffic light is vital in helping ease the traffic congestion in the area particularly during peak hours.

Lee who is also Senadin assemblyman said this to the media after conducting a site visit to Maigold yesterday.

In response to a public complaint on the narrow U-turn at the area, he said he has asked the Miri City Council (MCC) to widen the U-turn.

In addition to that, he said the council is going to construct a footpath for the two schools in the area namely SMK Pujut and SK Senadin.

Miri mayor Lawrence Lai said the road extension project at Maigold has cost the council around RM1 million.

The council also forked out an extra RM300,000 for the traffic light installation and footpath construction.

Earlier, Lee and the group made a site visit to the Curtin link road leading to Kuala Baram.

He said the link road is under the responsibility of the developer and is yet to be handed over to council.

In response to complaints on potholes and uneven road along this stretch, he said the council will ask the developer to upgrade the road under their jurisdiction.

Apart from that, he also wanted the council to take note on the illegal dumping of construction waste at Senadin area.

Lai in reply said the indiscriminate dumping of construction waste at the area has improved compared to before.

The council he added had even issued fines to errant contractors for illegal dumping and the council is monitoring closely on the situation from time to time.

Also present were Telang Usang assemblyman Dennis Ngau who is also the chairman of the Senadin Resident Committee.
