SIBU:  The state Sukma women’s volleyball team easily thrashed Selangor Sukma squad 3-0 at the opening of the Sukma Invitational Volleyball Tournament held at the Volleyball Court at Rejang Park yesterday.

The Selangor team marshaled by several seasoned spikers could not break the stout Sarawak defence. Sarawak took the first set 25-17 and followed that up with a 25-21 scoreline in the second set.

Selangor tried to stage a fight back in the third  but Sarawak powered ahead for a 25-15 win.

Sarawak women will take on Nanyang University Junior this evening (March 25) at 5pm.

Sibu Volleyball association coach Moh Ung Ming, however, was not at all rosy when asked about the performance of Sarawak women players.

‘There is still room for improvement as the players lacked the depth, understanding and coordination in several areas. Hopefully, with more matches coming up, it will help to shape their movement and court-cover as well as their spiking skills,” he added.

Earlier, Sarawak Sukma men’s team also displayed championship materials when they whitewashed  Sarawak Seniors 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-16). Sarawak seniors comprised a selection of players who were still actively involved in the game.

In another match, Johore UTM-PST team edged Singapore Nanyang University Juniors 3-1.
