State wushu exponents strike 18 golds at Hong Kong meet

KUCHING: Exponents of the Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak won an impressive 18 gold, eight silver and three bronze medals at 10th Hongkong Wushu International Festival Championship.

“We represented the Martial Arts Federation of Malaysia and participated in 23 events at the Hong Kong International wushu meet.

“Our wushu exponents did the state and nation proud by winning a total of 29 medals.

“It was a tough and challenging championship with more than 54 countries participating and more than 7,000 competitors aiming for medals,” said Malaysian Nanyang Wushu contingent head Prof Dr Song Swee Hee.

The Malaysian contingent coach Yeo Liew Yian won the Best Coach award while Song was awarded the Most Outstanding Leadership award by the championship organisers.

Among the multiple gold medallists from Sarawak were Lai Lee Sze in the Female – Taizuquan / Wuzuquan, Female Southern style Broadsword and Group Quanshu events; Alan Song Chun Hui in the Male- Taizuquan / Wuzuquan, Group Quanshu and  Double Sabre Group events; Jacqueline Song Yueh Choo (a student of SMK St Teresa) in the  Female Taizuquan / Wuzuquan Groupand Quanshu Group events;  Alvin Yeo Kai Xiang (a student of SMK Kuching High) in the Male Taizuquan / Wuzuquan Group,  Male Stunt and  Group Quanshu events; Ngawang Chodron Kho (a student of  Tunku Putra School) in the Female Southern Style Cudgel Group and Group Quanshu events; and Lawrence Loi Ming Xian (a student of SJK Chung Hua No. 2) in the Male Taizuquan / Wuzuquan Group and Group Quanshu events.
