KUCHING: An elderly man was seriously hurt during a robbery in his house at Jalan Arang here yesterday.
Chin Hon Fen, 83, was alone at home when a young man walked into the house’s compound around 10am.
Speaking in Malay, the suspect demanded for the man’s motorcycle and other valuables, but Chin refused.
This infuriated the suspect who attacked Chin with a hard weapon.
Though hurt, Chin put up a fight and retaliated with a wooden stick.
Chin’s sister-in-law staying nearby heard the commotion and went to check the house. She called out Chin’s name but did not get any response, so felt something bad had happened.
She rang up the man’s daughter and the neighbours for help. When the daughter came home from work, she gathered the aunty and neighbours to check out the house.
They found Chin lying on the floor, his face covered in blood. He was still conscious when found.
Some neighbours claimed they saw a man in black shirt running into the forest.
Police and ambulance later arrived at the scene.
Chin was sent to hospital.
A police report has been made and police are investigating.
