Confrontational attitude destructive, says Lo

CONFRONTATIONS DESTRUCTIVE: Lo, flanked by the council’s deputy chairman Mohd Hashim Yap (right) and secretary Michael Saweng, at the conference.

KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said he disapproved of people going to the opposition instead of to his office if they had something to complain about.

He said this approach was wrong because the issue at hand could be prolonged when all concerned parties were at loggerheads later.

Cited the recent collapse of a fence of a house at Greenville Park as an example, Lo said the complainant should have forwarded his complaint to the council, and not to the opposition.

“To voice your problems to the opposition will only worsen the situation, and not solving it.

“Pointing fingers at the council (PMC) each time a problem occurs is just not right. PMC does not encourage a confrontational approach in solving problems,” Lo told a press conference yesterday after chairing the full council meeting.

In this particular incident, Lo said the opposition went to the `extreme’ by demanding him to make a decision within three days during a media conference on March 22.

“We cannot solve problems through confrontational means, i.e. running down each other and giving ultimatums just to achieve your end.”

He added that the council was all for problems and complaints to be discussed through negotiations.

Anyway, Lo said the contractor had agreed to solve the problem which was caused by a collapsed concrete wall beside a drain outside the house.

Meanwhile, Lo reminded all contractors, architects and engineers to act professionally and to build projects based on the designs approved by the
council.

At the conference were also deputy chairman Mohd Hashim Yap and secretary Michael Saweng.
