‘Murder from the attic’ case suspect under medical observation

SIBU: A teenage boy charged with killing four members of a family at RTM Road was yesterday ordered by the court to be further remanded for a month for medical observation.

He is to appear in court again on April 20.

The17-year-old faces four tentative murder charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction, and another charge under Section 307 of the same Act.

The first charge said he killed Leong Nyuk Lan, 76, using a hammer in a house at RTM Road between 6am and 7.30am on
Jan 3.

The second, third and fourth charges said he killed Ling Tong Hock, 36, Ling’s children David Ling Chei Qi, 10, and Amy Ling Zi Jiun, 7, using the same hammer in the same house.

The fifth charge said he attempted to murder Ling’s second son Kelvin Ling Chei You, 8, at about 7am on the same day and place.

A neighbour said the teenager was believed to have entered the house through the attic.

Ling’s mainland wife, Li Xiao Lan, 28, escaped through their bedroom window after hearing a commotion downstairs.

The teenager was arrested on Jan 5.
