SIBU: Sibu Hospital yesterday received 53 new wheelchairs from benefactors including the Lions Club, Sibu Businesswomen Association, and Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, deputy health director Dr Chin Zin Hing from Kuching said this partnership between the people and the hospital was very important in view of the growing number of patients.

In the last 17 years since its establishment, the Sibu Hospital had seen much structural change, he noted.

“The staff force has increased and so has the number of patients.”

Dr Chin, the former director of the hospital, thanked the donors and said the new wheelchairs had come rather timely because the wheelchairs at the hospital were old.

He hoped that others would emulate the good deed of the donors.

Minister of Welfare, Women, and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah witnessed the handing over of the wheelchairs.
