KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is expected to send between 20 and 23 athletes to the London Olympic Games 2012 from July 27 to Aug 12, said Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said preparations by the athletes for the games was proceeding smoothly even though he was disappointed with the national hockey squad for failing to qualify.

“But the list of badminton players to the Olympic Games will only be decided in May,” he said at a media conference in Kelab Golf Rahman Putra here yesterday.

Earlier, he presented RM20,000 to the club for its junior golf development programme and paid tribute to former deputy prime minister, the late Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba, who contributed enormously to sports. — Bernama
