MUAR: Efforts to develop football in the country will meet a dead end if corruption in football becomes rampant.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Razali Ibrahim said all authorities must join forces to wipe out the menace of match-fixing and corruption in football that has started spreading like cancer.

“We hope anyone with information on match-fixing or football bribery to come forward an inform the authorities. If we don’t address the problem, it can destroy football in the country,” he told reporters at the Fiesta Bola 1Malaysia youth football programme’s campaign on match-fixing and corruption in football, at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium here today.

The campaign, held in conjunction with a 7-a-side football tournament was organised by the Muar Umno Youth, and participated by 60 teams.

He added that the identity of whistle blowers would not be revealed to the public. — Bernama
