KUCHING: SMK Siburan’s Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG)jogaton was successfully organised at the school compound yesterday.

The association had gained nearly RM100,000 from donations cards collected by students, teachers and parents of students from the school.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Malaysia Datuk James Dawos Mamit who also pledged RM30,000 from Minor Rural Project (MRP)fund for the association praised the school’s management and parents for taking great responsibility in making SMK Siburan to continue excelling in academic and co-curriculum.

“I had noticed that the school has progressed in academic and co-curriculum fields. It is excellent that SMK Siburan is now an exemplary school in the country, having won the state and national titles,” Dawos complimented.

“And to be excellent does not come easy if not for the strong leadership skills of the school’s principal and the association’s chairman in leading the school to be on par with associations of other races,” he added.

Dawos also reminded the students to be visionary and to always dream to be a champion.

“If you have vision and dream, there is always a possibility that you may achieve your dream one day,” he explained.

He added that there would be no shortcut to success, stressing outstanding students not only have to dream big but also have to study hard and show good discipline.

“In whatever activities we participate in, it is always important to note that it helps to develop better discipline and discipline shapes our characters, perception and change our mindset,” Dawos said at the closing cum prize ceremony of SMK Siburan PIBG Jogaton.

Earlier, the school’s principal Tilai Balla Udan said that the fund collected from the jogaton would be channeled to finance the upgrading of the school’s textbooks on loan operation room (BOS) and for holding development programme for curriculum and co-curriculum activities.

Tilai, who is also one of the excellent principals reminded students the need to emulate those who have achieved success.

“Whether it’s your teachers, leaders or anyone, learn their characters and how they manage to become so successful,” he stressed.

He added that in life, it is important to have someone as your motivator, leader or aspirator.

Meanwhile in yesterday’s jogaton, a total number of 1314 runners took part in 4 categories of the race.
