MIRI: Being blind is no big deal, neither is the disability an obstacle for a few visually impaired.

This is proven by Donny Jeranding and his group of six friends when they mooted and established the ‘Massage and Reflexology Centre’ in Permyjaya on Aug 28, 2010.

They may not have good eyesight like you and me, but they are not daunted; instead they struggled to move ahead and ventured into business to be on par with normal persons.

Their determination and perseverance paid off and today they are standing proud with the success.

The Massage and Reflexology Centre, run by skilled masseurs and masseuses, is the only one of its kind in the city so far.

Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin, at the officiating ceremony on Tuesday, commended them for their initiative and unselfish attitude.

“They are earning a good income … RM400 to RM700 per month and the rental of the outlet plus the utility bills come to RM1,200 monthly,” he said.

Thirty one-year-old Donny, who is the proprietor, said they offered five types of service – Thailand Massage, Chinese Massage, Traditional Massage, Taiwan Massage, Reflexology and Bekam Massage.

“One session is about one or two hours and one hour is RM38 per person,” he told The Borneo Post when met at the centre yesterday.

He also said every second week of each month was promotion time, with the centre charging only RM28 an hour and RM18 for half-an-hour per person.

On the business, Donny said peak periods usually occurred on the first week after pay day.

“On normal days, there are only three or four people coming and the most is 12 especially on festive holidays,” he added.

Donny has 12 years experience in massaging and reflexology, while the others four to six years.

On another subject, Donny said there were three categories of blindness – B1 (totally blind), B2 (partially blind and able to see shadows only) and B3 (able to see but vision is blur).

“That is the category I belong, the B3 blindness,” Donny revealed.
