KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) has beefed up safety measures for the upcoming Malaysian Super League (MSL) match between Sarawak and Kelantan here on Saturday, which includes additional security apparatus to safeguard the safety of football players, officials and fans.

“The Sarawak fans are very passionate. This Saturday, FAS will beef up security at Stadium Negeri to avoid the repeat of the chaotic incident during the match against Singapore.

“FAS will cooperate with the Police and Rela to ensure that the safety of everyone is not compromised should the fans are swayed by emotions during the match,” informed FAS secretary-general Abdullah Julaihi yesterday.

“FAS together with the security apparatus want to ensure that there are no lasers, fireworks or other dangerous items are brought into Stadium Negeri.

“Security will be tightened. Many incidents happened during the match against Singapore and we want to ensure it will not recur,” he added.

Abdullah stressed that fans must have valid tickets to watch the game as seats are allocated according to the tickets purchased.

“This is a big match as Kelantan are league champions. We expect at least 12,000 fans will watch the game at Stadium Negeri. To the Sarawak fans, please follow all the instructions given by Rela and the Police.

“Although security measures will be tight, please come in full force to support Sarawak and do enjoy the match. Your cooperation is vital,” said Abdullah.
