KUCHING: The Borneo Highlands Big Bikers Club Sarawak in one of their many convoys traversed the new Telaga Air Road on Friday.

The club has seen many new faces over the years with a record number of more than 60 active riders boasting their 500cc and above machines.

“Our main aim is to unite the big bikers across Sarawak,” said vice-president Sazali Bolhi @ Jalek prior to the start of their convoy of 15 bikers on Friday.

Barely a month since the club was officially formed under the Youth and Sports Ministry, Jalek said that most of the big bikers are still in the process of registering themselves to join the club with most of them from the former Victoria Arms Big Bikers Club. The club, he said, is expecting more than 100 members within the coming months.

Currently the club’s youngest member is 18 years of age while the oldest is 65 years old.

“We also have three lady riders in the club,” said Jalek, adding that organising convoys would be a weekend affair for the bikers.

Jalek said their recent convoy on March 8 to 13 was to Brunei and Indonesia which they named the “Three nations ride”.

Among the objectives of the club is to promote safety awareness campaigns and strengthen the public’s relationship with the riders.

During the convoys, Jalek also said that they were escorted by trained marshals who have sat through hours of courses with the Royal Malaysian Police.

Their destination for the next major convoy, said Jalek, would be in June for the Borneo Island International Big Bikers Festival in Pontianak, Indonesia.

“The festival will see all riders from Borneo gathering in one place sharing their experience, aspirations and dreams as a rider.”
