Jubilee Park run to flag-off at 6am

SIBU: The flag-off time for all the eight categories of the Jubilee Park Sarawak Health Marathon 2012 on May 6 will be held simultaneously at 6.30am .

Chairman of Sarawak Marathon Club Tang Kah Seng said this was the request from the runners as they felt that the initial flag-off for some of the categories slated at 9.30am deemed unsuitable.

“In view of the new flag-off schedule, we urge all the participants to report at 6am on May 6 at Jubilee Park for the registration and other formalities,’ Tang told The Sundaypost after receiving RM20,000 cash donation from Ta Ann Holdings yesterday.

Ta Ann Group CEO Dato Wong Kuok Hea also personally contributed RM5,000 as cash prizes for the run.

The eight categories include the 21km Men and Ladies Open, the 7km Men and Ladies Fun Run, the 7km Men and Ladies Veteran, the 7km Boys & Girls Junior.

Tang reaffirmed that the 6am flag-off time is final.

The run had received encouraging response with more than 350 runners from throughout the state registering for the event.

The bulk of the runners are from Sibu with Kuching, Miri, Kapit and Meradong runners accounting for the rest.

“Initially, we only prepared 400 T-shirts. However, due to the overwhelming response, we decided to give away another 100 free T-shirts to those who registered early. The run is open to all Malaysians and foreigners interested to participate are also invited to take part,” informed Tang.

“We hope to attract as many entries as possible. The more the merrier and it would make the run more interesting and fun,” he added.

For the prize structure, the winners in the 21km Men and Ladies Open will get RM600 plus trophy, first runners-up will get RM500 plus trophy and second runners-up will get RM400 plus trophy.

“The fourth placing will get RM300 plus medal, fifth placing RM250 plus medal and 6th to 10th placing will get RM180 plus medal. The 11th to 20th finishers will get RM100 each, 21st to 30th finishers will get RM70 each and 31st to 50th finishers will get RM40 each,” informed Tang.

A separate RM150 will be given to the youngest man and lady who qualified for the 21km category.

For the winners in the Men and Ladies veteran, Boys 7 Girls Junior, the champion will get RM200 plus medal, first runners-up will get RM180 plus medal, second runners-up will get RM160 plus medal and third runners-up will get RM140 plus medal.  The fifth placing will get RM120 plus medal and the sixth to 10th placing will get RM80 plus medal, while the 11th to 20th finishers will get RM50 each, 21st to 30th finishers will get RM30 each and 31st to 50th finishers will get RM20 each.

Entry fee is RM20 for Men & Ladies Open, Men & Ladies Veteran and Fun Run while for the Boys 7 and Girls Junior, the entrance fee is RM10.

The closing date for registration is May 2. Duly completed forms are to be sent to SMSC c/o Chai Lai Cafe, 35, Sanyan Road.
