YES WE CAN: Cashsweep players and captain Jackson Lim (sixth left) celebrate their narrow win over Tee-Off Club in the KGS Team Matchplay Championship at Sarawak Golf Club last weekend.

KUCHING: Team Cashsweep survived another scare as they edged Tee-Off Club 3-2 on Sunday to book their ticket to the finals of the KGS Team Matchplay Championship that will be played on April 15.

However, they have to wait until this coming Saturday to know their opponents as a resurgent Brother’s II will take on Tee-Off Club for the right to play in the final that will also be held at Matang nine.

In the fourth round match against Tee-Off Club, the Cashsweep team captained by Jackson Lim got off to a strong start to take the two points in the first and second singles.

Lincoln Leong set the pace for Cashsweep as he beat Terence Chai 6 and 5 in the first single but Lester equalised for Tee-Off Club when he overcame Ong Kim Pheng 3 and 2 in the second single.

Cashsweep regained the 2-1 lead when its first four-ball partnership of Irving Chong-Tommy Lau edged Chow Tung Leh and Lau Kim Yen 3-2.

The score went level again in the second four-ball with Tee-Off Club’s Justin Lai and Jordan Hng beat Bernard Lee-Vincent Wong 1 up.

Then Jackson Lim and Jacob Yong turned heroes for Cashsweep as they edged Dylan Tan and Kong Chun Man 6 and 5 for the team’s winning point.

In the loser’s pool, Brother’s II, who suffered a 2-3 defeat to KKB in the first round, made a strong comeback and the contention for the title by seeing off Fu.Lim.Ka.San 3-2 to set up a clash with Tee-Off Club.

Prior to meeting Fu.Lim.Ka.San, Brother’s II had a winning run against Hanayin Gertaq, Korea, Hole 19 and HGA.

Sixteen teams are vying for the challenge trophy in this competition held over the weekends for a duration of one month.
