KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Urban Development Corporation (SUDC) has been urged to adopt a culture of innovation and creativity to bring about enhanced value addition and a policy of faster, efficient and effective implementation.

Making this call, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin said that although the day-to-day administration of the agency was headed by its general manager as its chief officer, members
of the SUDC Board of Directors had an important role in the direction of the agency, especially in helming the organisation towards sustainable and profitable development.

“The establishment of good policies will help an organisation retain its relevance and bring benefits to the government and the targetted recipients,” he said at a ceremony to present appointment credentials to the directors of SUDC here yesterday.

Yahya, who is also State Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, said the SUDC played an important role as well in ensuring
the successful achievement of the three main targets under the National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) for the agriculture sector by 2020.

“The main NKEA target in the agriculture sector is to raise the gross domestic product contribution of the sector by RM28.9 billion to RM49.1 billion. Secondly, it should create some 74,600 job opportunities and thirdly, it must raise the income levels of farmers by two to four folds from the current levels.”

Agricultural projects being implemented to achieve the set targets should also give priority to the aspects of value addition and value creation, he added. — Bernama
