Bintulu gunning for Sarawak Cup triumph

BINTULU: The Bintulu FA (Bifa) are assembling a formidable squad capable of winning the 2012 Sarawak Cup tournament.

The association has placed the target of capturing the Sarawak Cup title as one of their top priorities this year.

“The ongoing 18thedition of the Petronas Cup League (PCL) 2012 competition is the platform for selection of players representing Bintulu in the upcoming Sarawak Cup competition.

A total of 22 teams are taking part in the Petronas Cup League (PCL) 2012 and we will select the best players in action to form a quality team for the Sarawak Cup competition.

The top six teams of this competition will automatically qualify for the FA Cup (Datuk Stephen Rundi Cup) scheduled in June this year. The remaining six teams will be selected from the Bintulu-Naim League,” said chairman of Bintulu Football Association (Bifa) Duke Janteng at the opening of the tournament held at Bintulu Mini Stadium here.

He added that the PCL tournament was one of Bifa’s efforts to produce young and talented players similar to football development programmes of other divisions.

Duke thanked Petronas for supporting Bifa and sponsoring the football tournament for the past 18 years.

Assistant Minister of Tourism and Heritage cum Jepak assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip kicked off the tournament.

Also present were Petronas Sarawak Region general manager Datin Mary Saadiah Zainuddin and Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president Datu Sudarsono Osman.
