RCI must zero in on Sabah first – Deputy Minister

KOTA KINABALU: People should not lose focus on what needed to be done under the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) for Sabah, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

“We must zero in on Sabah first and deal with the issue holistically,” he said when contacted to comment on opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call to set up the RCI nationwide to look into allegations related to illegal immigrants.

Liew said Anwar’s call for a nationwide RCI on illegal immigrants by citing problem in his own constituency in Permatang Pauh was a far-fetched excuse.

“Is he telling us that only now he realises the security threat posed by the presence of illegal immigrants because it is happening at his doorstep?

“It is an irony really considering he was the Deputy Prime Minister in the country and holding various posts in the federal cabinet during the height of the influx of illegal immigrants that subsists until today,” Liew said.

Anwar said the proposed establishment of the RCI must cover Selangor, Penang and all states for security reasons and economic stability.
