Song pre-Gawai Dayak celebration on May 18

KAPIT: The pre-Gawai Dayak gathering for Song district is scheduled for Friday, May 18, at 6.30pm to be held at Song Community Hall.

Song District Officer Galong Luang, who is also the organising chairman of Song Gawai Committee, disclosed this to the press this morning.

According to him, the organising committee, at its recent meeting, had agreed to the tentative date and that several activities had been lined up for the celebration with the Kumang Gawai Dayak Song 2012 as the main highlight of the night.

For the Kumang Gawai contest, he said attractive prizes await the winners, where the crowned Song Gawai queen will bring home prizes in the form of trophy, sash, hamper and RM750 cash. Second and third place winners will receive RM600 and RM450 cash, a trophy and hamper each respectively.

Meanwhile, the organising committee will also be giving consolation prizes to the fourth to tenth places in the form of hamper and RM200 cash each.

He (Galong) also disclosed that the committee is selling tables for the pre-Gawai dinner priced at RM250 per table.

“The organisers have decided to limit the number of tables to 46 due to the limited space available,” he pointed out, adding that the persons to contact with regard to the sale of tables are Winnie Ngkin at 084-777634 or Lily Tama at 084-777255.

The other activity to bring cheer to the celebration is the giving of incentives by Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Song Branch as the sponsor to students who excelled in the last public examinations in UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM and those who shone in the co-curricular activities for 2011. Member of Parliament for Kapit, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and state assemblyman for Katibas, Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan are expected to be the guests of honour.
