Herbert queries Chong’s ‘about-turn’ on Anwar

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) vice president Datuk Herbert T Lagadan said a former leader of the party, Dr Chong Eng Leong, has suddenly become very protective of Pakatan Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

This is because when Chong was in PBS, he had condemned and implicated Anwar in his political speeches, Herbert claimed.

Chong was a member of PBS Supreme Council for more than a decade and most Sabahans would still remember Chong’s fiery speeches in condemning and implicating Anwar, the Kadamaian assemblyman said.

“Let Chong search his own soul and ask himself why he speaks good of Anwar now? Is the contents of MD Mutalib’s books different while he was a PBS member?

“I am glad that Chong himself realized that tens of thousands of phantom voters in Sabah have been expunged from the electoral rolls. Is this not good proof that PBS’ re-entry into BN has been a positive move?

“If what Chong says is true that the names of tens thousands of phantom voters were transferred to Peninsular Malaysia, then Anwar is only reaping the fruit of what has been planted in Sabah,” Herbert asserted.

According to him, every true Sabahan is eager to see the formation of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) in Sabah to resolve the many problems related to the illegal immigrants in the state.

He said if Chong wanted to have the RCI inclusive of Peninsular Malaysia, then he can ask Anwar to raise such motion in Parliament.

“The terms of reference (TOR) for the RCI in Peninsula would surely be of different nature. It would be more proper that Chong asks Anwar to shut up as far as Sabah RCI is concerned.

“Let me assure Chong that PBS has its way of dealing and approach to solve the illegal immigrants problem in Sabah.

“Had he stayed longer with PBS, surely Chong would be the man to spearhead the party’s team to push for the RCI in Sabah,” he said.
