MUKAH: It was indeed a positive step forward for Land and Survey Department Mukah when they embarked on a 5S Re-Certification journey, making them the first government department here to do so following the expiry of their 5S certification some two years ago (Sept 2010).

The launching ceremony which took place at the conference room of Menara Pehin Setia Raja building yesterday was attended by the department’s superintendent Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood as guest-of-honour.

It was also attended by two land officers – Morshidi Askha and Bujang Radin, newly-appointed 5S facilitator Mohd Iskandar Mohd Usop, sections heads, other officers and staff.

“The decision to launch our 5S Re-Certification project was in line with our vision and mission to create a conducive working environment and professional workforce capable of providing better service delivery to all our clients and stakeholders. It is also consistent with our journey towards achieving excellent results in all our undertakings at all times,” said Awang Zamhari who is also chairman of the 5S Re-Certification main committee.

Awang Zamhari also announced the name of three team leaders who will head their respective groups or sub-commitees namely Irtiflydia Morshidi as leader of 3rd Floor, Alexander @ Haikal for 4th Floor and Salina Sait for 5th Floor and also the appointment of Mohd Iskandar as the project facilitator.

“Please bear in mind that we must work as a team despite the fact that we are under different groups as we embarked on a journey of excellence for our department (Land and Survey Department Mukah) rather than for personal achievement and glory,” said Awang Zamhari adding that their quality of works will be audited by officers from the Land and Survey Department Sarawak headquarters and also from Mampu during the re-certification process.

The 5S certification originated from a similar Japanese practice involving Sisih (Seiri), Susun (Seiton), Sapu (Seisu), Seragam (Shiketsu) and Sentiasa Amal (Shitsuke) at their workplace.
