KUALA LUMPUR: World badminton number one singles player Datuk Lee Chong Wei is putting behind accusations of him being big headed for not attending the National Sports Award ceremony on Tuesday.

Nonetheless, the 30-year-old considered the episode as a lesson.

“I do not blame people for talking, what is important is myself, I know I was sincere. From this experience, I have learnt alot,” he told Bernama.

At the National Sports Award ceremony on Tuesday attended by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Chong Wei, who was named  2011 National Sportsman of the Year, was represented by his brother.

The badminton champion had a meeting with National Sports Council (NSC) director-general on Friday to clarify things and the issue was found to be over a misunderstanding.

Both parties agreed to end the controversy amicably and Chong Wei would be brought by NSC to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong soon. The national Olympic gold hopeful is now undergoing final preparations for the world’s biggest sporting game. — Bernama

“I just want to focus on training for the Olympics and avoid sustaining any injuries. I hope the media would cooperate and help me as this would be my last

Olympic appearance,” said the 2008 Olympic silver medallist.

He will be in action at the Indian Open from April 24 to 29 and the

Malaysian Open GP Gold in Johor (May 1-6) as a warm up before representing the country in the Thomas Cup final in Wuhan, China (May 20-27).–Bernama
