Team DM Sri Tabuan victorious

KUCHING: Pre-tournament favourites DM Sri Tabuan beat PBM 3-0 to win the Sarawak Badminton Association President Cup and walk away with the challenge trophy and RM6,000.

Former Sukma shuttler Vong Xiang Wei led the way for DM Sri Tabuan to defeat another former Sukma player Roni Tan Wee Long in straight sets of 21-16 and 21-19 in the first singles for the first point.

In the second singles, Vong’s teammate Clement Chieng came back from one set down to beat James Liaw 3-21, 21-18 and 21-19.

The doubles match saw Ibrahim Abdul Rahman and Ting Wei Ping overwhelmed PBM’s pair of Rosli Sapiee and Talib Mawi 21-11, 21-10.

For finishing second in the competition, PBM collected a trophy and RM4,000.

In the play-off for third and fourth placing, Sri Tabuan beat SIOL 3-1 to receive RM1,500 and the latter collected RM1,000.

The best players for U-18 singles were Jeremy Toh Hong Hing, U-18 doubles Kam Sing Siong-Gerald Ong, Men’s Open singles Vong Xiang Wei, Men’s Open doubles Ang Wee Sing-Ting Sing Kiat and Men’s Veteran doubles Ting Wei Ping-Ibrahim Abdul Rahman.
