MIRI: Tennis players from Miri dominated the inaugural Greensports Junior Tennis Championship held here winning three out of four categories.
Miri’s Belinda Chai Wei Xin won the U-18 Girl’s singles category while Leroy Ko triumphed in the U-10 Unisex event. He later partnered Nur Irdina Mohd Rosdi to win in the U-10 Unisex Doubles category.
Sabah’s Stefan Alex was victorious in the U-18 Boy’s singles to prevent a clean sweep by Miri players.
“The two days junior tennis tournament organised by Miri Division Lawn Tennis Association (MDLTA) had successfully attracted a total of 127 players from Miri, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu as well as neighbouring country, Brunei Darussalam. The turnout was overwhelming indeed,” said David Kho, founder of Greensports.
“We are happy to hear that the kids are planning to come back again next year. The competition is a platform for young players to enhance their competitive skills as well as to strengthen relations. We plan to make the competition an annual affair,” Kho added.
