SARIKEI: The quality of services at the hospital here will be improved from time to time provided the people continue to have full trust and confidence in the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

Sarikei member of parliament Ding Kuong Hiing gave this assurance when handing over a haemodialysis machine to the hospital on Monday.

He cited the setting up of the hospital here as proof of the government’s commitment to provide quality and specialist healthcare services to the local people.

“Hence, in this case, I will make full use of my position as a BN elected representative to discuss with the health minister ways and means to upgrade the services at the local hospital,” he said when responding to the suggestion by hospital director Dr Tey Siew Chang to set up an anaesthesiology unit as part of the hospital’s specialist services.

Dr Tey, in her welcoming speech, had said the presence of an anaesthesiologist would complement the specialist services already available here to optimise facilities at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Surgical Unit.

On the haemodialysis machine, Ding said it was to replace the old one.

Though two or three of the machines there had to be replaced due to defects and old age, he said he only managed to contribute one unit presently because of the high price, which is about RM40,000 each.
